Wings Versus Catapult
A catapult can throw you through the air, but it cannot give you wings.
This is part of the series ‘A Journey through 12 AURELIS Metaphors.’ For an introduction to this series and a list of the 12 metaphors, click here.
Imagine a giant catapult capable of flinging a person high into the sky. For a moment, it feels like flying. But gravity pulls the person back down, and the illusion of flight is replaced by the harsh reality of the fall. The catapult is an external force — powerful but short-lived. It doesn’t create real freedom, only fleeting moments of false elevation.
Now imagine growing your own wings. This process takes time and effort, but the flight it enables is entirely different. Wings come from within, representing your inner strength and natural growth. With wings, you can soar freely, sustained by your own power. This metaphor reflects the difference between true, internal transformation and superficial, external changes imposed from outside.
The trap of the catapult
A catapult represents quick fixes and external motivations, from manipulative self-help techniques to fleeting bursts of inspiration. While these methods might provide temporary results, they don’t address the deeper causes of your struggles or foster lasting change. Instead, they can leave you feeling more dependent and disempowered, trapped in a cycle of highs and lows.
True transformation doesn’t come from being thrown by a catapult. It comes from growing your own wings — developing the inner strength to rise on your own. This growth is steady and sustainable, rooted in your deeper self.
AURELIS and the invitation to fly
An AurelisOnLine session is an invitation to grow your wings. It doesn’t throw you into the air or impose external solutions. Instead, it nurtures your inner strength, helping you develop the ability to rise naturally. This process aligns your conscious and subconscious selves, empowering you to fly in a way that is uniquely your own.
Through AURELIS, you learn to trust your wings and the steady process of their growth, letting go of the need for external catapults.
Exploring together with Lisa
Lisa, your AURELIS companion, can help you explore the growth of your wings. She might ask:
- “Where in your life are you relying on external catapults to feel like you’re flying?”
- “What would it feel like to grow your own wings and trust their power?”
Lisa’s guidance helps you transition from dependence on external forces to a deeper trust in your inner abilities.
Take a moment to reflect:
- Think of a time when you relied on external motivation or solutions. How did it affect you in the long run?
- Now imagine growing your own wings, taking flight through your inner strength. How does this feel different?
Try this short Compassionate Affirmation:
“I grow my own wings. They are strong, steady, and carry me toward true freedom.”

Hello, and welcome. In this session, we’ll explore the difference between being thrown by a catapult and flying with your own wings. One represents external force, temporary and fleeting, while the other symbolizes inner strength and true freedom. Let this time be a moment of calm and trust in your natural process of growth.
Begin by finding a comfortable position. Let your hands rest softly, and when you feel ready, close your eyes. Start with a deep breath in… hold it for a moment… and then exhale slowly, letting tension leave your body. Let’s do this two more times. With each breath, feel yourself relaxing more deeply, settling into this moment.
Now, imagine a giant catapult. It’s powerful, with the ability to throw you high into the air. Picture yourself stepping onto it and being launched skyward. At first, it feels exhilarating, like you’re flying. But soon, the arc of the catapult’s throw begins to fade. Gravity pulls you back down, and you land with a jolt. The feeling of freedom is gone, replaced by the reality of being dependent on the catapult to experience flight again.
Take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, let the image of the catapult fade away. Instead, imagine yourself standing in a quiet, open field. You feel a sense of possibility. Slowly, you notice something changing within you. You feel the beginnings of wings forming on your back — light, fragile, and new. These wings are a part of you, growing naturally and steadily.
As time passes, the wings grow stronger. Feel their strength, their potential. They are not external; they come from your own inner self. With these wings, you don’t need to rely on external forces to lift you. You can rise on your own.
Now, imagine spreading your wings for the first time. Feel the air beneath them, lifting you gently. You are not being thrown or forced. Instead, you are flying freely, guided by your own strength and rhythm. This is your flight — steady, sustainable, and entirely your own.
As you soar, softly repeat these words to yourself:
“I grow my own wings. They are strong, steady, and carry me toward true freedom.I trust my inner strength to guide me.”
Say it again, letting the words resonate deeply:
“I grow my own wings. They are strong, steady, and carry me toward true freedom.I trust my inner strength to guide me.”
Feel the truth of these words settling into your heart. Trust that your wings will always be there for you, growing and strengthening as you need them.
When you’re ready, begin to bring your awareness back to your body. Feel the surface beneath you and the air around you. Take one more deep breath in… and as you exhale, carry this sense of inner strength and freedom into your day. Open your eyes gently when it feels right.
Thank you for being here. Take care.
