The Distinction Between ‘Ego’ and ‘Total Self’ is Difficult to Grasp

May 17, 2018 Cognitive Insights No Comments

… and it’s infinitely interesting (trying) to grasp it

It can also fluctuate greatly.

One moment ‘you have it’ and the other you lost it again

Like the sun that is sometimes shining through the clouds. Knowing that the sun always keeps shining behind the clouds may give confidence.

Sometimes one sees clearly the mote in another’s eye, but not the bean in one’s own eye.

You get it? ‘Others’ do such crazy things. This world is going weird. So much psychosomatics. So much aggression. Politicians care little about the ‘polis’. People who intentionally use difficult words. When are ‘they’ ever going to learn? Yes. All kinds of examples from the own environment. They do this and that. Or they don’t do this and that. With a little more insight ‘one’ would not hurt the other so much. Etcetera.

It is above all ‘infinitely’ difficult because the journey always continues, while each step could mean a serious step in understanding .

Moreover, there are the steps going back. .. and you will notice that it might not yet be for today.

Why don’t ‘we’ go for it? Why don’t we (rapidly) change this crazy world? Okay? ‘We’ are going to do it right now. As has often been said. Not long after that, the horizontal seems to be vertical. Ten meters is far if it goes uphill.

A very big problem is that ‘ego’ really loves to eat the candy that is meant for the deeper self.

That is dangerous, because what is sweet for one, may be poison for the other. The candy box contains all kinds of things. If ego eats it all just like that, ego is spiritually dead. I mean: then it is stuck in a delusion where it might never get out without a real miracle.

Ego is a shadow in Plato’s cave. Ego always wants more. Hence: ego wants to catch ‘God’ in candy. That is then called ‘medication’ in psychosomatics, for example. And of course it’s nothing. So: more medication. And:

Why will no-one help me?

What did I do to deserve this?

Why won’t those doctors simply cut away my pain?

Why do you say all the time that it is my fault?

Reprogram me please.

Please give me the key to happiness.

Please give me the secret of the universe.

Give me! Tell me! Do me!

I want…

to be a magician?

All egos love to be magicians. No ego will ever succeed.

Two Brains or One?

Folklore often suggests we have something like two brains in competition with each other for higher cognitive functions and trying to dominate the other. That is an oversimplification. Also, it is not the case that one part functions conceptually, the other subconceptually. Rather, this distinction is spread throughout all brain-related parts and functions. An External View on Groupthink

Imagine an observer from afar, trying to understand the strange ways of creatures on a strange planet — how they unite, divide, and lose sight of themselves. This is Lisa’s Compassionate gaze: not judging, but seeing. The strange creatures are us, humans. Lisa notices that the very force binding people together may also keep them Read the full article…

Deep Semantics

In a semantic network, concepts are interconnected through conceptual links. Deep semantics takes this a step further, exploring connections at deeper levels. This can still be conceptual or go deeper-than-conceptual. The notion that deeper connections between concepts may hold more significance than direct superficial links is key to grasping human cognition. Imagine two non-linked concepts Read the full article…
