{"id":2585,"date":"2019-09-10T12:41:05","date_gmt":"2019-09-10T12:41:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aurelis.org\/blog\/?p=2585"},"modified":"2019-07-27T09:19:52","modified_gmt":"2019-07-27T09:19:52","slug":"importance-of-clarity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aurelis.org\/blog\/general-insights\/importance-of-clarity","title":{"rendered":"Importance of Clarity"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Even more important, especially in the domain of AURELIS: striving for clarity, each one doing the best (s)he can.<\/h3>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Vagueness out?<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Some find vagueness OK for being able to bring people together where this would otherwise not easily be possible. People can stand behind the same vague idea, so at least they meet, mentally or physically.<\/p>\n<p>While this strikes a chord, some straightforward objections are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There are better means to bring people together. To these should be given full chance. Vagueness-based associations make this more difficult.<\/li>\n<li>This \u2018togetherness\u2019 being eventually based on a false premise, may lead to specific problems, one of them being that the vagueness cannot be clarified without the group probably falling apart.<\/li>\n<li>In order to avoid such problems, vagueness may be more and more necessary -&gt; vicious circle.<\/li>\n<li>Not sensing a truthful internal cohesion, the group is at risk to find its cohesion mainly in positing \u2018them\u2019 (outsiders) against \u2018us\u2019 (insiders).<\/li>\n<li>Within the group, people may be afraid to voice their apprehension about the vagueness, for fear of being ousted.<\/li>\n<li>\u2026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In short, as far as I\u2019m concerned, one should be <em>very<\/em> careful with vagueness as groupish glue.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Clarity: tool for dissociation?<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Then again, the poetic (deeper) side of human being can be diminished through undue clarity. This is: when the goal of \u2018being clear\u2019 is exclusively oriented towards conceptualizing everything.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, the raison d\u2019\u00eatre for poetry as such, is: to communicate at another level than the clarity-level, to \u2018say what has no (conceptual) words\u2019. So one reverts to metaphors. Note that there is no black-or-white distinction, but a continuum and a fair amount of subjectivity, creativity, trial and error.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, in this, clarity can be used to \u2018cut the clutter\u2019\u2026 and lose the essence. Poetry \u2013 generally speaking \u2013 is an intrinsic part of human being. Without it, we are less human. [see: \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/aurelis.org\/blog?p=1830\">Rationality and Poetry<\/a>\u201d]<\/p>\n<p>Without it, we live in a state of dissociation with our deeper self. We \u2018lose our very soul.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Un-nice things do happen.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>What clarity is good for<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So many things. Clarity is obviously important for the sake of avoiding misunderstandings and for efficiency\u2019s sake in any communication.<\/p>\n<p>Clarity is a builder. It builds stability upon which further clarity can be built, mentally and materially.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Clarity is also necessary for the sake of subtlety.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Surprisingly?<\/p>\n<p>One can have nothing of the latter without the former, although from afar, subtlety may look like vagueness. People frequently mistake it for such. Subtlety is about making <em>as clear as possible<\/em> what cannot easily be made very clear. Talking about the subconceptual \u2013 thus also: AURELIS \u2013 much belongs to the domain of subtlety.
