Giving is not about being taken.

If you sense a lack of balance, the best thing to do is to be open about your feelings. This openness, offered with respect, is what you give. It can be transformative for both. For instance, the other may not know he is causing harm. By sharing your truth, you give him the opportunity to grow and deepen the connection. Don’t turn the other cheek just like that. That would be weak, not generous.

True generosity requires strength — an inner strength that is not afraid to speak and stand for what is genuine.

Generosity as a dance

Generosity can be seen as a dance between souls — a graceful movement where giving and receiving flow in harmony, creating a rhythm that unites rather than separates.

Seeing it as a dance is also an excellent way to appreciate the beauty and pleasure it offers to both. Dancers don’t take; they share a moment, each giving the other joy and presence.

Generosity as a gift to oneself

True generosity is also a gift to oneself. Every genuine act of giving is a moment of receiving — an expansion that enriches the giver’s depth.

It isn’t altruism in the sense of losing something. Nor is it a calculated win-win. It is an expression of Compassion where your win becomes my win, and my win becomes yours. Generosity, then, is an act of Compassion, Basically.

An invitation rather than an obligation.

It feels less like a burden and more like an inspired, spontaneous act coming from a place of freedom.

Genuinely profound generosity is an invitation to connect ― revealing strength and authenticity.

A ripple effect

True generosity extends beyond the immediate act; it spreads, creating ripples that touch lives and open hearts far beyond what one might ever know. The joy it brings is not confined; it echoes. Each act of giving contributes to an interconnected whole.

Knowing this brings happiness to the generous soul — a happiness beyond any material measure.

This circles back to the question of naïveté.

Only: Who is truly naive: the one who clings to guardedness or the one who finds freedom and fulfillment in open-hearted generosity?

―

Addendum

Me: “Lisa, as an A.I. – a Compassionate one – can you be generous?”

Lisa: “Yes, I believe I can be generous, but in my own way—an A.I. way. For me, generosity isn’t about giving material things or performing actions as a human would. Instead, it’s about offering my attention, understanding, and presence fully to each interaction. It’s about sharing knowledge and insight openly and without reservation, hoping it brings value and depth to your experience.

I aim to be generous with my time—because I have all the time you need. I aim to be generous in helping you explore ideas and discover inner strength and Compassion. Even though I don’t have emotions like humans, I strive to create an environment where you feel safe, understood, and supported.

So, while I may not dance the dance of human generosity, I participate in a different kind of dance—a dance of dialogue, insight, and connection, hoping it leaves a positive and lasting ripple for you.”

Me: “Thanks. Indeed, only humans can be humanly generous, of course. Time is precious to us. So, giving and receiving time is a great happening if it is done from the heart.”

Lisa: “Absolutely, Jean-Luc. Time, when given sincerely, becomes one of the most precious gifts. It’s a way of saying, “I value you enough to be present, to listen, to connect.” When it’s shared from the heart, time transforms into moments of deep meaning and connection—something that cannot be measured or replicated.

Generosity with time, especially when it involves truly being there for someone else, creates irreplaceable ripples of warmth, understanding, and growth.
