Nevertheless, they are huge and crucial for the future of humanity and A.I.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>Many people, including in high places, don\u2019t profoundly think about this subject and implicitly act as if the differences are unimportant. Many opportunities to do good are thus unfortunately lost.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/aurelis.org\/blog?p=7434\">Terms and concepts<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As always, please note that terms are just words. They can denote meaningful concepts. Especially in a crucial domain such as this, the thinking needs to start from the concepts, not the terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, let\u2019s start by the following.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Short descriptions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Acting friendly can be explicitly programmed into a robot, or a human may act friendly by merely following a set of guidelines without giving it a second thought.<\/li><li>Empathy starts from knowing about the person one is empathic toward \u2014 in thoughts, feelings, or both, with theory of mind involved. See the <a href=\"https:\/\/aurelis.org\/blog?p=1199\">landscape of empathy<\/a>.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/aurelis.org\/blog?p=6819\">Compassion, basically<\/a>, adds the vertical dimension (\u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/aurelis.org\/blog?p=7606\">empathy beyond\u2019<\/a>) in the sense of what some try to attain by putting in years of meditative practice one way or another \u2015 for instance, on a cushion or by meditative writing. See also the <a href=\"https:\/\/aurelis.org\/blog?p=5107\">difference between Compassion and altruism<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>All about depth<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can see this in the above descriptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Especially in Compassion, the direction goes radically toward <a href=\"https:\/\/aurelis.org\/blog?p=3709\">depth<\/a> \u2014 therefore, toward the <a href=\"https:\/\/aurelis.org\/blog?p=1151\">total person<\/a> in contrast to mere ego. Otherwise said, toward activation of broadly distributed <a href=\"https:\/\/aurelis.org\/blog?p=4629\">mental-neuronal patterns<\/a> (MNPs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The problem with invisible depth<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is,&nbsp;<em>conceptually<\/em>&nbsp;invisible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not because something is conceptually invisible that it\u2019s deep. However, depth is precisely about that \u2014 be it in a \u2018deep\u2019 way. Conceptual thinking is, of course, also very valuable, but in its striving toward crispness, the \u2018broadly distributed\u2019 becomes much more challenging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the difference between Eastern-style <a href=\"https:\/\/aurelis.org\/blog?p=413\">Emptiness<\/a> and nothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s the difference between living in the <a href=\"https:\/\/aurelis.org\/blog?p=3757\">basic cognitive illusion<\/a> or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s the difference between being Compassionate or merely empathic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s the difference between being able to have an immense impact on health or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s the difference between <a href=\"https:\/\/aurelis.org\/blog?p=13998\">needing war<\/a> to settle silly disputes or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In anything, Compassion ultimately strives for a synthesis of the crisp and the broadly distributed way of mental processing. The aim of AURELIS coaching is to effectively work at this level <a href=\"https:\/\/aurelis.org\/blog?p=11933\">much more profoundly than any non-Aurelian coaching<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Compassionate A.I. (C.A.I)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Broadly distributed patterns can be attained in forthcoming super-A.I., thus making it also a possible recipient for Compassion if we choose so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note the critical difference with empathic A.I. The results may also be crucially \u2013 even existentially \u2013 different. This is why those who are profoundly involved in A.I. development should at least be aware of the differences.
