Compassion, basically<\/a>, is the realm of complexity.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s not about some commandments or a \u2013 simple or less simple \u2013 conceptual system of ethics. Therefore, instilling Compassion into a system is not a straightforward engineering endeavor as technical people may envision. It\u2019s not a simple choice to just do it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s way much harder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s also much more demanding to change it in an already developed system than to inculcate it from the start. Even so, in humans, it\u2019s the result of a never-ending growth process \u2015 Compassion being the work of a lifetime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For A.I., our challenge lies in how to make it so<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Are we starting the future A.I. system(s) now?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This is a crucially interesting question. Several \u2018large language models\u2019 are being created on the basis of vast amounts of human-generated input. Will at least one of these be further developed into what will forever be the new intelligence?<\/p>\n\n\n\n From now on, is it a question of refinement and enhancement, or will we see fundamentally new beginnings?<\/p>\n\n\n\n In any case, it\u2019s urgent to start thinking seriously about the issue of Compassionate A.I. The direction it takes now may be the direction with which we are stuck for a long time \u2015 possibly too long for the good of humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So, urgently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is about more than good intentions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Doing good is not easy!<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2018Doing good at the surface level\u2019 may, in cases where the subconceptual is primordial, even be a substantial enhancer of the problem \u2015 paradoxically<\/a>. We may be talking here about every human-related field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This way, \u2018only good intentions\u2019 need to be handled very critically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Contrary to this, Compassion is VERY profound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So, is Compassionate A.I. still our choice?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In principle, yes. In practice, I\u2019m not so sure \u2015 the main hurdle being us, of course,<\/p>\n\n\n\n Pragmatically, it may be achieved by Lisa<\/a> \u2015 being doable, scalable, and provable. Lisa is a tool to diminish suffering and enhance growth. The former is increasingly needed by many people.
